Since his beginning in photography in the early 1990's, Slam has shown a special interest in the body and staging. He searches for the ideal ratio between light and shadow that gives his images the look of a clear and flawless appearance. Ilford made no mistake by awarding Slam the coveted Book of Major award in 1998. His career moved quickly from here. After completing a number of fashion and beauty shoots for both French and international press (Vogue, Madame Figaro, Rolling Stone, Cosmopolitan, Hola, FHM) the world of music took over.
His innovative approach allows him to connect with many musical artists as Slam’s photos are not simply pictures, but a concept…an art. He designs and creates the entire universe in which he immerses his model: makeup, lighting, costumes, scenery; everything is designed and chosen completely by Slam.
For Yael Naim, Slam’s photography accompanied her in her fantasy world, while for Michael Youn, Slam captures him as in a conceptualized “mug shot”. He reveals the true nature of a diva, in shooting Julie Zenatti. Slam was given the complete conceptual design for Lorie, and transformed her into the iconic image of Barbarella. He has captured M. Pokora as the face of an intimate and elegant fashion plate for his calendar and then again for Von Dutch.
Commercial advertising has always been part of Slam’s interest. He signed several major campaigns for Armani Cosmetics L’Oreal, McDonald's, NRJ, Orangina, Miko, Revlon, as well as Cosmetic Laneige that displays his photographic work throughout Asia.
Slam has also had great interaction with international artists. Madonna has posed in front of his lens. He has used his unique vision adding Enrique Iglesias, Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child, and Nicole Scherzinger from the Pussycat Dolls to his credits. Most notable is his work with superstar Lady Gaga for whom his photography graces two of her single CD covers, as well as the creation of the photograph that would ultimately become her poster and image that launched her first Tour, showing her suspended from the Eiffel Tower; all completely conceptualized and created by Slam. Most recently, in 2011, Lady Gaga called upon Slam to capture her immortalized with Jean-Paul Gaultier; a shocking and controversial image that is viewed around the world. Subsequently, Slam collaborated with the "House Of Gaga" on the creation of the set design and staging for her various performances for French television.
Slam and his work were seen in the premiere season of the reality TV show "How to Look Good Naked" which is the heyday of the M6 channel in France, breaking audience records. The producers called on him to iconize “everyday” women and transform them into “stars” for a day, giving them their “fifteen minutes of fame”.
Passionate about the infinite possibilities offered by the digital world, Slam gives free rein to his imagination and invents the most unique and original photographic icons. He has six exhibitions to his credit and has already begun to add film direction as the next phase of his artistic career.
